A Letter to Mayor Wenham from Debbie Evans

Dear Mayor Wenham,

I want to thank you for your support of the residents on this issue.  Because of your historical knowledge of the FPL right-of-ways, I know you understand how important it is that we act today to preserve tomorrow.

To keep you up-to-date on this matter, I am attaching an article aout our powerline situation which I believe is due out in the Little Ranches HOA newsletter today, July 1.

A Letter to Ms. Laurie Cohen from Debbie Evans

Dear Ms. Cohen:

I want to thank you for your support of the residents on this issue.

In reference to your request for FPL's 5-year plan at the June 3d special council meeting, we subsequently found it on the FPL website at http://www.fpl.com/savings/isc/contents/suppliersym_jaindl.ppt.  This is a 5-year transmission plan, which looks like it is updated every year just as is FPL's 10-year site plan.

To keep you up-to-date on our powerline situation, I am attaching an article which I believe is due out in the Little Ranches HOA newsletter today, July 1.

Here are a few more emails, culled from the past month or so,
that may be of interest to you:

Subject: FPL transmission project

Charlie, just wanted to let you know that after Rod Macon wasn't sure FPL had a 5-year plan, I located one for the transmission system on FPL's website.  Looks like it's something that's done every year, just like their 10-year power plant siting plan.  Here's the web address:  http://www.fpl.com/savings/isc/contents/suppliersym_jaindl.ppt

Thanks for inviting Dave Aronberg and Shelly Vana to the June 3d meeting so they can begin to get educated about transmission and power plant siting issues.

Will you, or any other member of your staff be at the informational meeting on the 14th?  I was hoping Edward Clough would be as well as any of the council who was not at the first FPL hosted meeting in May.

In order to keep FPL from using the southernmost and westernmost portions of the right-of-ways, one of the things we on this committee  need to start doing right away is finding other alternatives for future lines.  If we wait until we get the next announcement from FPL, it will be too late.  Can the Village help in this effort by providing maps showing canal and road rights-of way, future roads, future land use plans the Village has.etc.  One alternative for us to consider is an easement swap.  Such a swap that would be for the good of the community could be the win-win we are all looking for.  So, in addition to seeing maps of the above nature, we would need to know of any constraints as well as we begin identifying sites.

Please let me know your thoughts.  We residents are meeting tomorrow evening to talk about our options, the direction of the committee, etc.

Thanks.

The agenda for the June 10th meeting at Mike Nascarella's home:

Prior to the FPL informational meeting on the 14th, we are having a meeting on Thursday, June 10th at 7:30 at Mike Nascarella’s home.  This meeting will be to discuss:

  1. The hiring of an electrical engineer to help us with this project.  I have already hired at my expense initially a former  FPL electrical engineer who was with FPL for 30 years, has done both transmission and distribution lines, and is quite familiar with Wellington and this situation.

  1. The Ad Hoc Committee which has been approved by the Town Council.  We need to discuss:
    1. Membership (ideally I would like one representative from each area, including the two gated communities to the south on Lake Worth Road)

    2. Length of time for committee to exist

    3. Focus or Goals – some things that have already been mentioned are:

1.  Notice of future powerline sitings

2.  Solving this situation to keep FPL to northernmost and westernmost parts of easements

3.  Management of easements (vegetative and otherwise)

4.  Tree canopy – how to preserve, protect, and enhance

5.  Ridding properties of the Class I invasive species Brazilian Pepper, Melaleuca, Rosary  Pea, etc. and putting native vegetation in their place

6.  Becoming more energy wise or energy smart since it is demand as well as location of future communities that drives the siting of powerlines and power plants

If there are any other items or ideas you have, please bring them to the meeting on Thursday night at Mike’s or email me if you cannot attend.
